Get Found, Get Sales: My Shopify SEO Roadmap to Rank Higher and Sell More

If you're running a Shopify store like me, you know it’s not enough to just build a good-looking website and wait for sales to roll in. People need to find you first. That’s where my Shopify SEO roadmap comes in. I’m from Day 1 Digital, and I help store owners just like you get found, rank higher, and sell more.

Let’s break it down together, step by step, in simple words.

Step 1: Know Your Customer’s Words

Before anything, I ask: What are my customers searching for?

These are called keywords. They are the exact words people type in Google when they’re looking for products. If I’m selling dog collars, someone might search “custom dog collars for small dogs.” That’s a long-tail keyword—and it’s gold.

I use tools like Google Keyword Planner or just check Shopify’s search analytics. I write these keywords down and group them into categories: product keywords, brand keywords, and question-based ones.

💡 Tip: Always write for people first, not search engines. Use their words in your product titles, descriptions, and blogs naturally.

Step 2: Fix Your Pages

Now that I know my keywords, it’s time to fix what’s already there. This means:

Writing better title tags (the blue clickable titles in Google)

Writing clear and honest meta descriptions (the small text under the title)

Making sure every product title and URL makes sense

For example:

Bad: shop.com/123abc

Better: shop.com/custom-leather-dog-collar

I also check image names and add alt text with my keywords. Google can’t “see” images—it reads the words we give it.

Step 3: Make Your Site Fast and Mobile-Friendly

Google loves fast websites. I test my site speed using Google PageSpeed Insights. If my store is slow, I:

  • Compress big images
  • Remove unnecessary apps
  • Use a fast Shopify theme

Also, most of my buyers are on phones. So I make sure everything looks clean, buttons are easy to tap, and checkout is smooth.

Step 4: Write Helpful Content

This is where I shine. I don’t just sell—I help. I write blogs and guides that answer questions my buyers are already asking.

Examples:

  • “How to Measure Your Dog’s Neck for a Collar”
  • “Top 5 Durable Collars for Active Dogs”

When I write, I use my keywords in the title, first paragraph, headers, and image names. I break the blog into short paragraphs with bullet points, so it’s easy to read.

💡 Bonus: I answer questions in the blog that might appear in Google’s “People also ask” section.

Step 5: Build Trust with Backlinks

I reach out to bloggers, pet influencers, and small news sites to link back to my Shopify store. These are called backlinks, and Google sees them as “votes” of trust.

I also join online communities and drop helpful comments (not spam) with a link to my store or blog when it’s helpful.

Step 6: Keep Watching and Improving

Every month, I check Google Search Console and Shopify reports. I look for:

  • What pages are getting clicks
  • Which products are ranking
  • What keywords are working

If something’s not working, I tweak the title, re-write the description, or add fresh content. SEO isn’t a one-time job—it’s an ongoing game.

Final Thoughts

At Day 1 Digital, we believe SEO is about building trust and value, not shortcuts. With this Shopify SEO roadmap, I’ve helped stores grow from zero to thousands in monthly traffic—just by doing the basics right.

If you follow this plan, stay consistent, and always put the customer first, your store will get seen, clicked, and bought from. SEO isn’t magic. It’s strategy, service, and sticking with it.
